Exciting things are happening down at West Huntspill as we start on the first extension to our railway since 1987. As can be seen from the photographs, good progress has been made. We hope the alterations will give our visitors a more enjoyable miniature railway experience.

Plenty of activity on Sunday 30th February as the first of the concrete sleepers is put into place.

 

 Ashley, Master digger driver, manoeuvres another sleeper into position.  

Concrete bases disappear into the distance. Gary on the left with his measuring gear while Frank and Steve, stoke the fire. 

The line starts to snake off round the site. Looking good boys!.

The old line has been disconnected and the extension is curving off on its new formation.

Further pictures taken on the 20th March 2011. We were stuck for some more concrete sleepers but thanks to Andrew Harvey this have now arrived and fairly soon the new track bed will all be in place.

 April 3rd 2011.

Trevor and Frank have been busy laying slabs in front of our station. The concrete track base is now complete and tracklaying will commence shortly.

 

 Well here we are on a lovely sunny day ( Sunday 10th April) and with the track work now complete its time for some testing. Peter goes for a spin with Gary. 

Jim Lovell tries out his prairie tank. First impression were that considering that the track is not fully fixed down or fettled yet, the running was extremely good.

The first train around the circuit was "Denise" the diesel driven by Frank with Oliver as passenger. It was Oliver's fourth birthday so "Happy Birthday" to Oliver.
